Three ways to make the most of your daily scrum in Jira

Ever faced your daily scrum calls ending up longer than usual? Or perhaps a few non-key matters discussed for much longer than required compared to critical issues? Well, in our case, we were pretty much facing such difficulties in our daily standups.

Here are three ways to make the most of your daily scrum in Jira.

1. Three golden questions

Daily Scrum looks for the answers to the below questions:

  • What did you do yesterday?
  • What will you do today?
  • Do you have any impediments?

These questions highlight progress and help flag team blockers. Also, it strengthens the team when everyone shares the progress they’re contributing to the team. The daily reinforcement of sharing individual successes and plans keeps everyone excited about the team’s overall contribution to the organization.

2. Time Boxing

Standups are not a one-size-fits-all meeting. Many teams time their standups to keep everyone focused and keep the standup efficient.

However, it’s common for daily scrum calls to end up longer than usual, with some non-key matters being discussed for much longer than required. Also, teammates could engage in problem-solving or get into elaborate discussions during standup (instead of afterwards). The result - standup time overshoot!

3. Tracking and Followups

We often lose track of critical upcoming blockers as they are updated to the issues and then not tracked. It’s a good practice for the Scrum Master to consolidate all the blockers shared by the team and assign action owners, priority, and deadline for each impediment.

Daily tracking as part of the standup helps uncover blockers and strengthen your agile team.

Introducing VIEW26 Scrum Standup Manager for Jira

view26 Scrum Standup Manager is an App that allows Scrum teams to capture daily updates and blockers intuitively and enables the Scrum Master to manage Scrum right within Jira.

The App also provides a free companion Slack standup bot for Jira to help capture daily updates from the scrum team.

🏆 view26 Scrum Standup Manager won 2nd place in the [2021 Atlassian Codegeist app competition] (

Features you’ll love:

  • We let the team asynchronously capture the answers for the 3 standup questions from the team members.
  • We create a card for each user with their updates and timebox at the member level (this can be overridden manually on a case-to-case basis)
  • We let you create summary cards that capture the items on which the team needs support for
  • We populate the follow-up card and let you discuss it as part of daily standup so that team can share updates and close items which are resolved.
